So, your car is damaged due to a minor accident. You now need to get a rental car to help you out while your own car is being repaired. How to go about doing this, ensuring it is fully covered by your car insurance?

7 Important Considerations

1. Rental Car Expense – Is It Covered?
When covered damage leaves your car out of commission, the rental reimbursement of your car insurance helps pay for your rental car costs. However, rental reimbursement is an optional coverage. Not everyone chooses to include it in their policy. Furthermore, it may not be available to all customers.

2. Your Rental Car Reimbursement Budget
Rental reimbursement coverage may be subject to a daily and per accident limit. For example, if you have $25 per day/$750 per accident rental reimbursement limits, your car insurance company will pay up to $25 per day but no more than $750 per accident for your rental car. Check coverages and limits available on your policy to find out the details that pertain to you and your car.

3. When You Can Rent a Car Under your Policy
If your car is safe to drive, reimbursement usually begins when repairs to your damaged car start. You should not get a rental car until you confirm that the shop has the necessary parts and is ready to begin repairs to your car. If your car is unsafe/disabled to drive, the insurance company can usually authorize you to get a rental car after you report your claim.

4. Car Rental Period
How long you can hold on to a rental car depends usually on the state of your own car. If your car is repairable, you may usually keep the rental car till your damaged car is back on the road, or until your coverage limit runs out, whichever comes first. However, if your car turns out to be a ‘total loss’, your auto damage adjuster will advise you when to return your rental car. Begin shopping for a replacement car asap, as the amount of authorized rental time at this point will be limited.

5. Types of Rental Car You Can Rent
In principle, car insurance companies allow you to rent a car comparable to your own. However, practically, be wary. Check your rental reimbursement limit for two reasons:
a. if the daily rate of your rental car exceeds your daily limit, you’ll have to pay the difference.
b. if your car repairs are going to take several weeks, you might be better off with a modest car. Renting a car with a lower daily rate makes your rental reimbursement limit (i.e. your total car rental budget) last longer.

6. Which Rental Car Company May You Use?
Usually you may use choose which rental car company you will use. However, insurance companies usually parter with one or more car rental companies for your (and their) convenience. This means that if you rent a car from that car rental company, the rental company will usually bill your insurance company directly after you return the rental car. If you choose another rental company, you are most likely to pay for the car rental first, and be reimbursed by the insurance company later. Of course, reimbursement is subject to your car rental reimbursement coverage.

7. Insurance for Your Rental Car
Most rental car companies will ask you to take out additional insurance from them to cover the rental car. Note that car insurance companies may not pay for this additional coverage. However, in many cases, this coverage may not be necessary. If you have both comprehensive and collision coverages on your own car policy, these coverages will usually transfer to your rental car while your car’s accident damage is being repaired. Check the details on your policy or confirm this with your agent or claims adjuster.

8. Read the Fine Print
Always refer to your policy and check with your insurance company for any specific information about your car insurance rental car coverage and other car insurance details.

Rental of an motorhome is a popular option for many people. The motorhome rental insurance requirements vary from State to State, but have some common features.

In some cases, your own private automobile insurance policy can be extended to cover motorhome rentals. It is necessary to check with your agent to see exactly how much coverage can be added and what the cost would be to include the motorhome on your basic policy for the duration of the rental period. If this is practical, a rider is added to your insurance contract that covers you for damage to the motorhome and for liability. This should be the first step in the rental process, but it is wise to get your personal insurance information together and then compare it to the insurance offered through the motorhome rental company.

The MBA motorhome Rental Insurance Company offers motorhome insurance and is available through over 19,000 different motorhome rental agencies nationwide. It is very likely that this insurance which runs between $15 and $25 dollars a day depending on the size of the motorhome will be more comprehensive and less expensive than a rider on your personal insurance. However, you will not know this until you have gathered the figures and done a comparison. You will also need liability coverage which runs about $10 a day and covers you for up to one million dollars.

You will need to have a driver’s license, of course, and the minimum age requirement varies from State to State. Insurance is always a good idea and liability insurance is also the law in most areas. It is not a very wise decision to risk doing without full coverage collision insurance when renting an motorhome. Regardless of your driving skills, accidents can happen easily in an motorhome. They do not necessarily need to be your fault. The motorhome has vastly different driving characteristics than your automobile and minor accidents when parking or backing up are not uncommon among renters.

It is also important to remember that motorhome rental insurance does not cover damage to the interior of the motorhome unless the damage is caused by the result of a driving accident. It is important to take extra care of the appliances and interior of the motorhome to avoid extra damage or clean up charges when the motorhome is turned in at the end of the rental period. You will be able to make a complete inspection of the motorhome before the rental begins and you should make sure that any preexisting damage is noted before the motorhome is accepted.

The motorhome rental requirements are not overly restrictive and the cost is not excessive when the value of the motorhome is considered. No one anticipates an accident when renting an motorhome, but insurance coverage is a loss prevention safety net that will keep your dream vacation from turning into a nightmare.

Rental car agencies have a menu of insurance policies they would like to sell you. While each policy could be of some benefit under the right circumstances, you should review each plan (its provisions, limitations, and exclusions) before making a purchase. It is a good idea to request the detailed information from an agent at the rental office, as most companies only provide a summary on their Web sites.

Keep in tend; you may not necessity to buy this additional car insurance because you have sedan insurance from your own car insurance troupe. Normally talking, when you rent a car, the liability coverage bounds you have in your own sedan insurance policy wait in look with the same bounds. In addition, the comprehensive and conflict coverage you have in your own sedan insurance policy wait in look with the same deductibles. You do have comprehensive and conflict coverage don’t you? See our thing, “How greatly Car assurance should You Buy?” for an inventory of coverage types and definitions.

You may also have some kind of additional sedan insurance coverage through your standing license but it is important that you invoice your standing license information for aspect facts. Some licenses only covenant coverage if you rent your car from a particular work. Some bound the being for which coverage is untaken. Some will only provide coverage for certain types and/or module of cars. With some licenses, the coverage is not sedanmatic and you must register in a plan to get coverage. Some licenses that puff sedanmatic rental insurance truly only return you for the deductible that you would have to pay under your habitual insurance policy. Still others may provide only conflict and comprehensive coverage, goodbye you exposed for private injury or chattels wound to others. Leasing car agencies typically covenant liability coverage’s age in two parts – a supplemental liability policy protects against claims from others and a passing injury Waiver (LDW) coverage’s the rental car. LDW is not technically insurance; fairly, it is a troupe’s covenant not to foothold the consumer likely for hammering from all or part of any wound to merchandise.

Before you rent a vehicle, grasp the charges you could be responsible for and how these charges are sheltered or not sheltered by both your own sedan insurance policy and the car insurance the rental troupe is covenanting. What we have explored up to now is the most important information you need to know. Now, let’s dig a little deeper.

If you bear a hammering that is not sheltered under your sedan policy, invoice your other insurance policies. For example, if private chattels have been stolen from your rental car, it may be sheltered under your homeowners or renters policy. Also, certain checkup policies may coverage expenses of injuries not sheltered by your car insurance policy.

As forever, invoice with your insurance troupe to find out closely what is sheltered under your own sedan insurance policy.

By Elizabeth Morgan

Many people choose to rent recreational vehicles (RVs) to use while on vacation. Some of the time, these rental RVs can be covered through the driver’s auto insurance policy. The way to do this is to first obtain an Insurance Binder/Endorsement from the auto insurance provider. Next, the RV rental agency must be added to the auto insurance policy as an “additionally insured” and a “loss payee.” There are many limits and complications to this option. Many drivers find that this coverage is not adequate and choose to purchase additional coverage through the rental agency. This is often a better option because it is less complicated and provides more comprehensive coverage. RV rental insurance is usually very reasonably priced and is most often secured through MBA Insurance.

It is a good idea for RV renters to purchase additional RV rental insurance. This covers the renter if there are damages to the RV, or if the RV damages other vehicles or property. The fact that most RV renters do not regularly drive RVs makes rental insurance a particularly good idea. RV rental insurance can usually be purchased from the RV rental agency for a reasonable daily fee. The fee varies depending on the rental agency and the particular model of RV. Insurance for smaller RVs starts around $15 per day, with medium sized RVs often costing $20 a day, and the largest models costing $25 daily. It is usually a good idea for renters to purchase Supplemental Liability Insurance. This insurance usually costs about $10 a day and provides the renter with liability protection up to one million dollars.

Most RV rental agencies provide insurance through MBA Insurance. MBA is the top name in RV rental insurance and has provided its services since 1978. MBA protects both renters and the rental agencies. Their policies save the rental agencies money by insuring the renters and keeping costs low for the rental agency. MBA Insurance provides the renter with full coverage, including liability up to a million dollars, collision, uninsured motorist, and comprehensive. Most RV renters choose to purchase this insurance through the RV rental agency, but it can also be obtained through the renter’s auto insurance company in many cases.

RV rental insurance covers the renter for most road-related damages and liability. Most RV rental insurance doesn’t cover the interior of the recreational vehicle. Renters must be especially careful with the appliances and furniture in the RV, as those items are not usually covered by insurance.
