A quick news item for car owners in Louisiana

House Bill 1312, sponsored by state Rep. Erich Ponti (R-Baton Rouge), has become law, meaning motorists in Louisiana will see hikes in their liability insurance premiums and limits beginning in 2010.

Drivers will have to increase their auto liability limit for property damage to $25,000 or more, their limit for single injury or death to $15,000 or more, and their multiple injury or death limit to $30,000.

Critics claim the bill will cost auto insurance policyholders up to $400 more annually, but Ponti indicated the hikes are necessary to cover the increasing costs of medical car and car repairs.
